Howth Head

Although the paths around Howth are intimately familiar to me, I'm still caught off guard there, blown wide open by a sudden patch of light on the water or the heather, by the delicate beauty of sea campion or windswept bend of a tree and, always, by the constant boom of the sea.

  2. It's very beautiful Jane. I often go back home to old coastal haunts and am amazed how overpowering they seem when you haven't seen them for a while. I think 'the boom of the sea' is a perfect way to describe it actually.

    1. Ah Siubhan - I was thinking a bit of your own photos from home when I was there and feeling kinship over homesickness!

  5. Ahh Howth...so beautiful. I planned on having a full day of touring Howth with my friends but when we arrived and got of the train it was pouring we ran into a pub and spent the whole day and night there :) Played darts and got crushed but the local ladies team and got "fozzy the bear" to river dance for us. Thanks for sharing your gorgeous pictures and bringing back great memories.

  6. Gorgeous! I can't get over that almost golden color of moss on the rocks. Would make a lovely accent color (to wear!) for fall.

    1. Thanks Anna! It's lichen, rather than moss. Indeed, the colour inspired some of the knits I had in my store :)

    2. Hello Jane,
So glad you mentioned that; I just got the beret and will be so happy to wear it, once the weather finally turns cool in the south!

    3. I'm glad you mentioned that! I was able to buy the last beret in that color, and I know I'll love wearing it this fall.

  10. These are so beautiful! I've been to Ireland three times now, but the first I was too young to remember and the second two I didn't leave Dublin. I've always wanted to explore outside of that city & these photos capture it as I've pictured in my head. Someday!

    1. Thanks Clare - though Howth is very much still in County Dublin!

It's much, much more wild and rugged on the west coast... you can see some of my pictures from past trips west here:
