My beauty essentials

I buy many different lotions, potions and pigments. It's such a sweet, easy pleasure... a new lipstick or nail polish, a cream that soothes, a mask that softens. But if I had to choose my everyday essentials, they would be these products. It took a long time to land on these products. Some I've used for years, some are brand-spanking new. I improvise when my skin undergoes a mysterious change, I switch things up when I grow bored. Right now this is what's working.

Skincare: Ole Henriksen | Skinceuticals | Dermalogica

Special: Eve Lom | Kiehl's | Institut Esthederm

Face: Bare Escentuals | Laura Mercier | YSL

  1. I've been craving a new beauty product to add to my routine lately. This is great. So simple and elegant.

    1. I think it's really important to talk to experts to diagnose specifically for your skin. I've wasted time and money on so many products just cause I saw them recommended... but they really weren't what my skin needed.

  2. It's always fun to see the products other people use. I am pretty lost at the beauty counter. I do have one new product in my bathroom that I ADORE, though, so I thought I'd share - it's a facial oil. Handmade in England. It's divine. Check it out: http://www.lapothecary.co.uk/

    1. It takes a long time to find the right products, the right advice. And it's always a work in progress as skin is always changing.

  3. At twenty-three, I'm just beginning to discover the delight of a new beauty product--I decided that I needed to give in and buy a nicer foundation and skin care routine last month and, well, that was that.

  4. I always like to see what other women use, and keep thinking that maybe I should share my own essentials - it's fun!

I'm dying to get my hands on some Byredo perfume, I've been coveting it from afar for a while now.

  5. You and I have quite a few of the same products - I must check out the Dermalogica range which I have yet to do. I have stopped using Eve Lom so often but it is always a treat, and the L'Occitane hand (and feet cream) remain on my bedside table as a ritual every evening.

I loved seeing your products Jane. Its so interesting.

  6. Dear Jane,

That's so fun! Elegant & simple, too...
    Thanks for sharing!

What type of font did you use in your picture, if I may ask? I am preparing an e-book that will share my beauty secrets as a French gal, and I'm on a lookout for nice fonts and layouts. Thanks!

    1. I usually find fonts at dafont.com, but they're free for personal use only.

  7. I use the skinseuticals line too - the oil is amazing. For body lotion, Aveeno works on my skin. And Neutrogena Visage for a sunscreen for my face/neck/backs of hands.

I find that I have used less and less in the way of cosmetics over the years. I think that it's parenthood, to be honest! Less time to put it on and take it off in the evening. Unless I am going out, if I do put some one, it'll be concealer, blush and gloss.

I think I also wear less after my 10 years in lovely, hot, summery Toronto. Too many days of it sliding off my face in the humidity! Now that I'm back on the cooler west coast I can wear more again.

    1. I'm a fan of St Ives because they're paraben-free. My routine is not wholly paraben free, but for the stuff that I apply all over my body, daily, I try to make paraben-free choices.
