I'm so attracted to dark colours right now and images with a great deal of contrast. Maybe it's the spooky season drawing me in to its moody embrace. Or maybe I never really stopped being intrigued at how light black can really feel when it's handled the right way. Here's some inspiration from my Tumblr.
I'm totally with you on this - I painted the wall in my home office black and I LOVE it. I've resisted painting everything else, but I love, love, love the way it looks - particularly with crisp white accents!
I am seriously so thrilled that people are getting past thinking that black interiors are morbid. These looks all prove that they are classy and sharp.
I love those photos!! I've always loved dark colors but not in a depressed way, in a chic glam way! That bedroom is the perfect mix of cozy and romantic. Love it!
I LOvE this. My tastes are going darker and darker except for the fact that I just posted bright and cheery flowers. Can't seem to get away from that:) Oops!
If I could - I'd paint every room in my house grey, charcoal and shades of cream. But alas, I do believe I would fall into a state of melancholy and endlessly recite "The Raven". Gorgeous images.
I think my moods are too varied to cope with these shades. Because yesterday when I first saw the pics I really didn't like them, felt quite panicked by imagining being in those rooms. But tonight I can take them on, quite like them.
I think the key to painting a room black might be the finish on the paint. High gloss could be too slick and sleazy, matte would suck all the light (and life) out of the space. Black needs just a bit of luster.

ReplyDeleteLove the bathroom. LOVE.
ReplyDeleteBlack can be a really cool statement in decor. But I don't think it works if you don't have a ton of light to lift the space.

ReplyDeleteAh! My thoughts exactly. I really want to paint my bedroom black. My only hesitation is how hard it might be paint over...
ReplyDeleteBlack or dark gray: which to choose? It must happen, it just looks the best.
Oooo....that bathroom is insane. I want one like that someday...either super dark and chic or super bright and, well, chic.
ReplyDeleteOh lovely images, I had never thought to descripes black as light sometimes but that is exactly right. I could easily live with a black room I think.
