Do you have a uniform? What does it consist of?

American Apparel 3368PAC Rib U-Neck Tank / Plain black, grey and navy cardigans of varying lengths usually from GAP or J.Crew / Citizens of Humanity Kelly jeans in a dark wash. I've been thinking of trying the J.Crew bootlegs as a more affordable substitute. Anybody wear these? / Leggings from Aritzia. They're the best, reasonably priced ones I can find anywhere / Perfect black flats, which I'm missing; they're my Holy Grail right now. I should have bought these ones / A-line skirts I've been off skirts for a while, but this shape is no-fail on my body. This one is from J.Crew / White Converse. Love! Jack Purcells have been making me happy recently.
P.S. Michelle of Neon Fox Tongue mentioned this genius site - The Uniform Project. Amazing - thanks Michelle for the link!
I do have my own uniform of sorts.
ReplyDeleteFor work I turn to a pretty patterned dress topped with a cardigan (office A/C requires layers) or a skirt + black tee + cardigan (black or sky blue) or a jacket that has this ruffle-like collar. Then a pair of black flats (I own three pairs in different looks).
Weekend = capris or a skirt and a tee - usually with flip flops. I try to be all french chic and avoid flip flops but they're so dang comfortable.
Am looking for some dark denim pants or jeans to wear with a white shirt.
I usually carry a colorful bag to make up for all the neutrals.
Not sure if I have a uniform actually - I'm feeling a bit "in between" styles these days (months). I'm working toward fixing that though.
ReplyDeleteHave you seen this? Very neat:

after reading this i *wish* i had a uniform. you make getting dressed look so easy!
ReplyDeleteYes! It's hard for me to find clothing that fits because I'm short. Once I find something that works for me I tend to stick to it. For the last few years it's been: flare leg jeans, denim on the darker end of the spectrum. Tank top. And a deep V tee with some interesting print. (Preferably printed by an Etsy seller!) And usually Adidas. If the weather calls for it I like long sleeve vintage western shirts, preferably plaid. I tend to wear mostly blue, gray, and black.
ReplyDeleteCome to think of it, my uniform is a lot like my grandma's was. I even wear one of her plaid shirts. She was pretty hip. :)
Oh wow, nft! That's awesome - thanks so much for the link!!
ReplyDeletei could fill volumes on this subject, as i am very much a uniform girl (must be the catholic school training). i'm currently in a grey/white tee mode, with denim or khaki as an accent. (jeans/linen skirt/khaki shorts. are you bored yet?) for shoes, plain black ballet flats is the go-to.
ReplyDeleteand thanks to you, i am now obsessed! with those handmade ballet flats. gorgeous.
I need a lot of help with my wardrobe! I loved your post a few weeks ago about cardigans. I think sleeveless stuff is so cute but I don't like showing my arms (sometimes I do if the weather is too hot) but I really don't like to. I want to stock up on a lot more cardigans. It's just so hard to find the right one. Shopping is such a drag in real life as nothing seems to fit me these days:(
ReplyDeleteThanks for the suggestions on leggings. I've been looking for the perfect ones!
Oh my goodness, Jane! We have pretty much the same uniform. The only thing I would add here are white and gray t-shirts. Other than that we could share everything. I love clothes but for everyday, a uniform makes life so much simpler! Oh and my go to black flats are Repettos.
ReplyDeleteMost of the year I wear jeans, a simple top (often a tank) and a cardigan.
ReplyDeleteThis summer, I've worn nothing but dresses. It feels so nice.
Uniforms are just so easy. I hate thinking about clothes in the morning.
I have a very similar uniform - white ribbed tank top, navy cardigan (usually navy, often crew neck, think I have that exact one) and a skirt. Every day. I don't wear trousers ever, and jeans every once in a while.
