I know The Wind that Shakes the Barley has been around ages. But it takes ages for me to psych myself up to watching Irish political movies. The performances by Cillian Murphy, Pádraic Delaney and Orla Fitzgerald are phenomenal (I did enjoy the prominent, unquestioned role played by the women in the movement).
Ken Loach's naturalistic style suits the story perfectly (his Kes is another one of those films that destroys me a little). This movie leaves me feeling the same way as Tom Murphy's play A Whistle in the Dark... upset in a good way, if that is possible... I'm upset, but I don't regret it.
