Book report: The Clothes on their Backs

Every year, I try to include most of the Booker long-list on my reading list. I usually find some new authors to follow through it. I do the same with the IMPAC short-list. I just finished Linda Grant's The Clothes on their Backs. Grant writes a lot of fashion journalism too. She understands the significance a woman's wardrobe plays in her internal life; how, for example, a new dress can be a catalyst for change. I guess she's a woman's woman in that way, without any of the annoying connotations of silliness or lack of gravitas. I enjoyed this start to finish.
